The writing has been on the wall for years. The US Postal Service later today is expected to announce they are cutting delivery service on Saturdays. I heard a rumor that Wednesday is next. Are we surprised? Nope.
New technology in 1861 spelled the end of the Pony Express. Fast forward 150 years and new technology is replacing the US Postal Service. Online banking and the exciting new VerifyValid check emailing service have taken the place of paper mail. Not to mention the hassle of dealing with opening and licking envelopes, paper cuts and reconciliation.
So maybe “going postal” won’t summons up visions of violence from bad working conditions, but rather the inevitable demise of outdated technology and outliving it’s usefulness.
