I was standing at the check-out in the restaurant, Panera Bread, yesterday with my kids ordering lunch, when I reached in my purse to get my wallet. It wasn’t there. Crap!
I had taken it out of my bag earlier that day to make a purchase online with my credit card and I didn’t put it back. My mind was reeling to find a solution…they won’t take checks…forget that. Next… I have my iPhone with my banking mobile app, but the app doesn’t make purchases. Next…my Square device accepts payments, but won’t make one for me. Next…I could have transferred money to my son’s account with my phone and he could use his debit card, but he left his wallet at home thinking Mom was treating.
So there I was, with no cash and no plastic. I did have my phone, but it’s not set up to make purchases. I was really wishing that the virtual wallet (or checkbook) was more entrenched. Amazingly, the cashier trusted that I would call later with my debit or credit card info, so by the grace of a trustworthy woman, we still ate cake. I did call with my info in case you were wondering.
This is the first time I ever truly longed for a virtual wallet. What are your thoughts on the virtual wallet? And what about a virtual checkbook? Leave me a comment.
